The Churches of Revelations – The First Church – Ephesus

[ad_1]

Every Christian belongs to one of the seven churches of Revelations. The Church of Ephesus (Revelations 2:1-7), has a special problem God reveals. Listen to what the Lord Jesus has to say about Ephesus and examine yourself. If this problem applies to you prayerfully deal with it according to the word of God.

Revelation of Jesus:
Jesus says he holds the seven stars, (angels of the seven churches), and he walks among the seven golden candlesticks, (the seven churches). By stating such things he is announcing that he is one who fellowships with the churches. He is the one who blesses the churches. He is the bridegroom that the church seeks. Our faith is based solely on his mercy!

Good Things
Jesus knows all the good things that the church in Ephesus does. They work hard, they have patience, and they can’t stand evil doers. They have worked for Jesus’s name sake, and they have not fainted. They are rich in works.

The Problem
The Ephesians lost their love for Jesus. They have become so busy in their works that they forgot why they labor. The Bible tells us that the first commandment is to love the Lord with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength. The second commandment is to love our neighbor as ourselves, (see Mark 12:29-31). It is the love of the Lord Jesus that compels us to labor. They forgot about the mercy of God, through Jesus, and are depending on their own works, their own self righteousness. Their own works are worthless without love for Jesus!

The Solution
Repent and do the first works. What are the first works that Jesus is telling us about? The work of God is to believe in Jesus, (see John 6:29). It is only when we totally rely on the grace of God through Jesus Christ that we are clean in God’s eyes. The works of a Christian are merely an extension of Christ’s love for us.

The Judgment
Those who do not repent and fall on the mercy of God through Jesus Christ will not be part of the church. If they do not have Jesus they have no light.

God begs for us to listen. He says, “He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches…”

The Reward
Those who repent will gain the tree of life, (eternal life). They shall dwell in the midst of God’s paradise.

Let us pray and humbly fall on the grace of God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
