Learning how to meditate is the same practice among many various cultures and religions. Pick Your Environment
The best place to meditate is one where you will not be distracted and can spend time alone without interruptions and noise. You may choose a place in your home that fits this criterion as long as the room gives you a good feeling and is secluded enough to allow you to spend at least twenty minutes uninterrupted. Don’t panic about finding the right spot, after a few meditations the spot you choose will start to absorb the energy from your meditations. This will help you to reach a deeper state of meditation in a shorter amount of time as you continue to program your meditation area
Best Time To Meditate
Try to pick the same time to meditate each day. The morning would be a great time to meditate, before you have been overrun by your daily stresses. Our daily lives stress us physically and mentally, which makes it harder to relax and get in the right state of mind to meditate. Be consistent with yourdaily morning ritual and you will notice that your day will unfold in a much different joyful way.
Planning Your Meditation
Planning your meditation is important when you begin learning how to meditate. You must be in the right state of mind to have a productive meditation. Meditating as soon as you get home from a long day is not a good idea because it will take the better part of your meditation just trying to calm down. Your meditation would be more productive if you went for a walk to help you unwind first. If you are tired than maybe you can take a cool shower or even an energizing fresh fruit drink. This is an intelligent way to prepare yourself to have a joyful and relaxing meditation.
Posture
The best position is to be seated with a straight back. You can sit in either a chair with a straight back or on the floor on a cushion. Picture the energy flowing from the ground through your body and out through your head. Picture an invisible cord attached to your head, which is pulling your body upright. This technique will help allow the energy to flow through your body unrestricted
Place your hands on you thighs and relax your fingers letting go of all the tension in your arms and hands. Relax your jaw as you tuck your chin towards your chest. With your mouth open slightly put your tongue against the roof of your mouth. Focus your gaze with half opened eyes, seeing but not really noticing anything. Picture yourself in a trance like state of awareness and no awareness at all. Do the same thing with any sounds you hear, you are aware of the sounds but you don’t give them any importance. They become a background symphony for the experience of the meditation, having no more significance than the background sounds we hear and ignore all day long.
Working with the Breath
As our minds seek to keep control our thoughts begin to run wildly. Let go of these thoughts and begin to focus on your breathing. Counting your breaths is a great way to stay focused. To count your breaths, one breath in and one breath out will be a count of one. To help train yourself to quiet your mind try doing a series of 15 to 20 breaths. As you breathe in imagine yourself breathing prana energy in and as you breath out imagine all your tension and stress being released with each breath. Prana is the life force of God. Learn to tap into the universal source of energy by imagining breathing in pranic energy.
As you begin to master your mind and your body you notice that you are in that place where you are now in control of your thoughts and health. That state of being where you are no longer controlled by your mind or outside forces. You are tapping into your universal consciousness and are experiencing what it’s like to always be in a state of peace and love. A level of consciousness that shows you that you are more than you think you are. You are a divine being and are limitless and only bound by the physical and mental restraints you place on yourself.
